About the Genealogy Reports
Any number of reports or charts can be generated from a genealogical database. One format is called an Ahnentafel (Ancestry) report, which uses a numbering system for listing ancestors in a direct line of ascent. Another format is a Descendant report, which simply lists descendants and their spouses, with birth and death years, from any chosen person in the genealogy.
An Ahnentafel report uses a special genealogical numbering system for listing ancestors in a direct line of ascent. The subject of the report, is number 1. his or her parents are numbers 2 and 3. The paternal grandparents are 4 and 5. The maternal grandparents are 6 and 7.
The subject (number 1) in this kind of report can be either male or female. Otherwise, all the even-numbered persons are male and all the odd-numbered are female. This is useful because it shows all ancestors in one report going back generation by generation. And just by looking at a person’s number in the report, you can tell who his or her parents are. Double a person’s number, and you will find that person’s father. Double a person’s number and add 1 will find the mother.
Due to the nature of the Ahnentafel you will see information such as names and dates repeated. The Ahnentafel reports on Nordicroots include many names and dates, but there are also photos, family stories, and explanations of Swedish history and customs that may help you get to know the people in your Scandinavian families a little more intimately!
